Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is an intense combat sport in which competitors use a wide variety of fighting techniques including striking, takedowns, and grappling to their strategic and tactical advantage. The history of Mixed Martial Arts can be traced back to ancient Greece where it was introduced as Pankration in early Olympic Games and continued to be one of the most popular sporting events until the rise of the Roman Empire. Mixed Martial Arts reemerged in Brazil back in the 1920's but didn't gain widespread publicity until 1993 when The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was created. Today, Mixed Martial Arts is the fastest growing sport in the world.

Our MMA program is taught in separate Striking, Grappling and Takedowns classes. Once you learn the fundamentals of each program in our Basic classes, you will combine the three techniques in our Advanced classes.

Striking

Our Striking classes are influenced by Kung Fu, San Shou, Muay Thai and Boxing. The Basic Striking classes focus on proper striking techniques utilizing hands, feet, elbows, and knees. Fundamental offensive and defensive skills along with stances and footwork are taught.

Light Sparring

Our Light Sparring class offers students an opportunity to test their Striking skills against an opponent. It is a popular class for students who are brand new to sparring.

Advanced Striking

The Advanced class is where you will learn the proper timing and distance to apply the techniques you have learned. Contact drills and sparring are introduced and developed in this class.

Grappling

Our Grappling classes are influenced by Catch Wrestling and Jiu Jitsu (No Gi). The Basic Grappling classes concentrate on submissions as well as defensive escapes and reversals. The Basic class introduces the various positions and their advantage and/or disadvantage.

Advanced Grappling

The Advanced Grappling class teaches submission techniques involving joint locks, chokes, cranks and compression locks. Strikes from the ground are also taught. Position transitions and energy management are reinforced. Students are allowed to roll in this class.

Takedowns

Our Takedowns class is influenced by Wrestling, Judo, Shuai Shou and San Shou.

A takedown is the technique for off-balancing an opponent to take them to the ground. The Takedowns class is the bridge between the Striking and the Grappling classes. You will learn sweeps, leg attacks and throws as well as defenses against these attacks.
